AIDA New Zealand
AIDA NZ is charged with the responsibility of supporting our elite athletes by facilitating competition in New Zealand and internationally as with any sport grassroots activity is important too and AIDA NZ wants to promote the sport at club level. To maintain consistency in the sport AIDA NZ engages the rules of AIDA International standards and selects internationally qualified judges for every world ranking competition.
AIDA NZ believes that divers should be aware of the risks of the sport and promotes safe diving by compiling appropriate references and contact information for freediving courses run in New Zealand.

Internalise Your Goals
Level: All Levels
It is always good to set goals, and these don't just need to be limited to particular depths/distances/times - you can set a goal to train a certain number of times per week, to complete a particular training table, or just to feel comfortable and relaxed at a certain depth.
If the goals aren't too ambitious, and you work diligently to achieve them, then each time it will boost your confidence in yourself and allow you to quell those negative voices that try and tell you you're not up to the task.
However perhaps one of the most important aspects of goal-setting that is easy to overlook is that there is more motivation - more impetus to achieve the goal - when you haven't told anyone about it. As soon as we start telling all our friends and family that we are aiming to hold our breath for 5 minutes by the end of the month then the goal becomes public - externalised. Quite often we are commended for our 'daringness' or dedication, when we haven't even started working towards the goal yet! The energy we have to work towards the goal diffuses...
If instead we keep the goal completely secret - internal - then the only way other people are going to find out about it is if and when we achieve it. The commendation comes appropriately at the end, after the achievement. There is an empowerment that comes with harboring a secret like this: the goal is much less tangible when only we know about it, so we are more motivated to make it tangible - to bring it into fruition.
This approach will also allow us to focus more on the process of achieving the goal, as we won't feel any external pressure to achieve the goal, and so won't measure our progress by how far we still have left to go.
