World Record For The Taking..Or Is It?
With competitors eager to perform well in front of International Judges, the wellington world record attempt event at Naenae pool has seen some spectacular dives.
Champion Freediver Ant Williams recorded an impressive dive of 223m, however due to a formality, the result was not allowed.
Dave Mullins then set a new World Record by swimming 226 meters in a swimming pool on a single breath. The 26 year-old accomplished this astounding feat during an international competition in Wellington’s Naenae pool. Mullins used a monofin to officially beat the previous World Record distance of 225 meters, which had been held by Danish freediver Stig Avril Severinson.
The dynamic swim took 3:42 minutes to complete; Mullins described it as “difficult and uncomfortable.”
This is the second World Record for Mullins. Dave’s first record was in the sport of spear fishing where he maintains the World Record for the largest striped marlin ever shot (2004).
