New World Record For Kathryn Mcphee
No record seemed to be safe today as Freedivers from New Zealand, Australia and the UK took to the water at the Porirua Trust Aquatic Centre during the Wellington Winter champs hosted by Wellingtons “Lazy Seal Freediving Club”
Phil Clayton (40) broke the Brittish dynamic no fins record that has stood since 2003 at 128m. Clayton, a geotechnical engineer form Auckland, achieved a distance of 132m in a time of 2:29 on a single breath of air.
Australian Walter Steyn(36) broke the Australian mens Dynamic without fins National record of 154m which he has held for the past two years with a swim of 165m completed in 2 mins 43 secs.
Not to be outdone, Kiwi Kathryn McPhee (29) secured her first World record today in the Dynamic without Fins discipline, with a swim of 151m. Mcphee who described the lead up to her dive as extremely nerve racking, a sensation stayed with her through out the dive completed her record achievement in a time of 2:48.
Event Organisers say that the results from day one of this competition have been absolutely astounding, while we were hoping for one new world record, the fact that we now have 3 new national records is staggering.
