Selection of NZ representatives for 2009 World Champs

Following the publication of criteria by AIDA international, AIDA NZ are please to formally announce the details of each of the world champs being held in Denmark and The Bahamas, and the selection criteria that will be applied by the board for individuals who do not qualify for automatic entry to these events.

AIDA indoor Freediving World Championship 2009,
This competition for Static, Dynamic and Dynamic without fins will be held in Aarhus – Denmark. 17th – to 22nd of August, 2009.

Automatic Qualification is granted to the The Top Ten athletes from the 2008 AIDA Ranking list. AIDA NZ will be in contact with those atheltes directly to confirm their attendance at the World Champs in due course.

AIDA NZ is able to send an additional Three athletes per discipline. The Selection criteria that will be used for selection is as follows:

- Highest points score from single best performance in the relevant discipline (i.e. DNF for DNF comp) since 27th of November 2007 up to and including 17 May 2009

- In the case of a tie, this shall be resolved by considering the highest points score from second best performance in the relevant discipline (i.e. DNF for DNF comp) since 27th of November 2007 up to and including 17 May 2009

Athletes are invited to announce their intentions to attend the indoor World Champs known by submiting a confirmation of attendance (subject to selection), in writing, to AIDA NZ board by 18 May 2009 via email to selections@aidanz.co.nz.

AIDANZ will announce the qualifying and selected athletes based on the qualifying criteria above by the 22nd May 2009.

AIDA Depth Freediving World Championship 2009
This competition for Constant Weight with and without fins will be held in the Bahamas – at Dean’s Blue Hole. 25th of November to December the 5th, 2009.

Automatic Qualification is granted to the The Top Ten athletes from the 2008 AIDA Ranking list. AIDA NZ will be in contact with those atheltes directly to confirm their attendance at the World Champs in due course.

AIDANZ is able to send one athlete per discipline per sex, with allowance for a 2nd athlete to be sent if the 1st athlete is equal to or better than the minima. The Performance Minima for the Depth World Championship is:

Women: CNF 30m CWT 55m Men: CNF 40m CWT 75m

The Selection criteria that will be used by AIDA NZ to select the maximum of 2 athletes will be as follows:

- Athlete has met performance minima as stated above at an Offical AIDA competition between 27th of November 2007 up to and including 17 May 2009

- Highest points score from single best performance in the relevant discipline (i.e. DNF for DNF comp) since 27th of November 2007 up to and including 17 May 2009
